The Weeknd’s ‘Trilogy’ Celebrates Its 7th Anniversary

The Weeknd

This week, the compilation of The Weeknd’s first three mixtapes, Trilogy, celebrates its seventh anniversary.

Comprised of House of Balloons, Thursday, and Echoes of Silence, the grouping of 30 songs that spans almost three hours was put together and released via Republic Records in conjunction with the now-hyper star’s XO crew. Singles leading up to the album’s drop included “The Zone,” “Twenty Eight” and the highly-popular “Wicked Games.”

The overall project served as a springboard for The Weeknd (born Abel Tesfaye) who went on to then release collections that only increased the his popularity, including Kiss Land, Beauty Behind the Madness, Starboy and most recently, My Dear Melancholy,.

Trilogy also acted to help many other budding artists start their careers or find a place in the niche that is dark R&B – notably label members Nav, Belly and fellow artists 6LACK (pronounced “BLACK”). Listen to the album that spawned a career and multiple others here.

Taylor Swift Isn’t Sure She Wants To Perform ‘Lover’ Songs Live

Taylor Swift

It’s been just a few days since the release of Taylor Swift‘s highly anticipated seventh album, Lover, and fans are already dying to see their favorites from the record performed live. However, the Grammy Award winner pulled back the reins while chatting with Ryan Seacrest on Tuesday (August 27th), noting that she “literally just got off tour.”

Swift explained that she’s not sure how the Republic Records-released project will manifest itself live, citing her intense focus on the recordings and rollout rather than how it would sound in person. “I’m not quite sure what we’re doing with touring because with this album, I was so full-on planning this album release and directing the videos and putting all these different clues in these videos and trying to make this album release experience the most fun one for my fans, that I didn’t wanna plan what we’re gonna do in terms of live and I don’t want to do the same thing every time because I don’t want my life to feel like I’m on a treadmill,” she explained.

Trying not to dash the hopes of her devoted fans, Swift continued to say “I don’t want to feel like I have to do the same thing every single time…. I definitely want to play this album live for a lot of people. I definitely want to give fans an opportunity and give me the opportunity to vibe with them on these songs in a live setting and see them sing the words back, but I don’t really know exactly what way that’s going to happen.”

Stay tuned for more news regarding an upcoming tour for her Lover album, but until then, listen to the full interview with Ryan Seacrest here.

Taylor Swift’s ‘Lover’ Easily Smashes Sales Records

Taylor Swift

After just one day on sale, Taylor Swift’s Lover album had already logged the biggest sales week of 2019 in the U.S.

According to initial sales reports to Nielsen Music, the set sold around 450,000 copies in its first 24 hours of release (August 23rd) – led by strong pre-sales. Previously, the biggest week of the year was notched by the debut of the Jonas BrothersHappiness Begins, with 357,000. Furthermore, Lover already has the biggest sales for any album since Swift’s own reputation bowed at #1 with 1.216 million copies sold in its first week back in 2017.

Post Malone Debuts New Song + Announces Album Release At Special Show

Post Malone

Last night (August 5th), Post Malone took the stage at NYC’s Cutting Room as part of his Bud Light Dive Bar Tour along with Sublime with Rome to perform a list of hits as well as some new material.

Rocking a bedazzled bomber jacket and a bejeweled western-style belt, the Texas-raised rapper introduced himself as Austin Richard Post (his real name) and sweetly called out his mom, who was also in the crowd. He then launched into renditions of “Zack and Codeine” from 2018’s Republic Records-released Beerbongs & Bentleys before pleasing fans with hits like “Wow.,” “Rockstar,” “Psycho,” “Over Now” (which resulted in lots of headbanging), “Better Now,” “Goodbyes,” “Sunflower,” “Stay,” and “White Iverson.”

A big highlight of the night was when Malone exclusively debuted his new song “Circles,” that he confirmed will be released next week. “I get to perform for the first fucking time, a song off the new album,” he announced. “It’s a little fucking different, it’s got a fucking fat groove, and I can’t wait for y’all to hear it!” He wasn’t lying, as the song, backed by sunny acoustic guitars, swirling percussion and infectious melodies, did indeed have a fat groove. He followed up the exhibition with an important announcement regarding his upcoming project: “My third album will be coming out in September. I worked really fucking hard on it and I think you guys are gonna like it very, very, very much.”

Get ready for “Circles” to drop next week.

Ariana Grande Gives Fans A Look Into Her Mind With New Video: Watch

Ariana Grande

Ariana Grande is staying intimate with her new video, “In My Head,” which premiered via Vogue alongside her August cover story today (July 9th).

Directed by Bardia Zeinali, the Pop songstress is dressed in a puffy black number and her infamous ponytail as she struts around in an all-white box. Breaking out some signature shoulder pops and hair flips, the star is literally taking viewers inside her mind. Even her now iconic over-the-knee boots make an appearance by themselves, dancing on their own and making audible taps on the floor.

The Thank U, Next song that the clip is based on has been altered to fit the theme by slowing certain aspects down and emphasizing particular words. Those augmentations and trippy effects added to the visual itself makes the entire presentation more intimate as Grande bats her eyelashes deep into the camera and sings some of her most vulnerable lyrics to date. Watch the whole Vogue cover video performance below.

The Weeknd’s ‘The Hills’ Is Certified Diamond

The Weeknd

Four years after watching his smoldering 2015 single “The Hills” hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, The Weeknd can rightfully celebrate the song’s success again once again.

On Friday (June 28th), Abel Tesfaye became the 23rd artist to have a song earn a Diamond certification from the RIAA, after the single pushed past the 10 million units sold mark. Interestingly, the Republic Records-released recording dethroned fellow Beauty Behind the Madness single “Can’t Feel My Face” on the aforementioned survey.

The “Wicked Games” vocalist joins an elite club of other artists who have created such iconic songs as the Black Eyed Peas’ “I Gotta Feeling,” Robin Thicke, Pharrell and T.I.’s “Blurred Lines,” LMFAO’s “Party Rock Anthem” and Elton John’s “Something About The Way You Look Tonight”/”Candle in the Wind.”

Though The Weeknd has remained quiet on the album front, having recently deleted his own Instagram account, he helped fuel the star-studded single “Power Is Power” for HBO’s Game of Thrones compilation album alongside Travis Scott and SZA. Stay tuned for more news regarding the follow-up to 2018’s My Dear Melancholy,.

Ariana Grande’s ‘Break Up With Your Girlfriend…’ Rocks #1* Spot On Billboard Dance

Ariana Grande

Ariana Grande, the hit-making machine, is taking another trip to the #1* position of the Billboard Dance Club Songs chart with “Break Up With Your Girlfriend, I’m Bored.” The massive effort marks her sixth consecutive chart-topper after No Tears Left To Cry, God Is A Woman, Breathin‘, Thank U, Next and 7 Rings.

The Grammy Award-winning songstress gets daring on the Republic Records-released track, stating “Break up with your girlfriend/Yeah, yeah, ’cause I’m bored/You can hit it in the mornin’/Yeah, yeah, like it’s yours/I know it ain’t right/But I don’t care/Break up with your girlfriend/Yeah, yeah, ’cause I’m bored.” Grande exudes confidence and sass throughout the recording which suggests that her target leaves his current partner for her, as well as in the visual which sees the Florida-born Pop sensation playing out a plan to steal her newfound love interest for herself.

“Break Up With Your Girlfriend…” has garnered multiple unique remixes from expert artists Dirty Disco and Barry Harris, giving it a boost within the club culture community in addition to its success on countless dance floors.

Ariana Grande is currently in the midst of her Sweetener World tour which has and will continue to see her perform at world-class venues until mid-October. Visit her site for ticketing information.
