According to recent court documents obtained by Billboard, Post Malone reached a settlement with Tyler Armes just minutes before a trial for the pair’s copyright lawsuit concerning his 2019 hit single, ‘Circles.’
On Tuesday morning (3.21) US District Judge Otis D Wright II announced that the superstar singer/songwriter, born Austin Richard Post, and the plaintiff had reached a settlement to avoid trial.
Though the terms of the pair’s binding agreement were not disclosed at press time, Armes originally sued the Republic Records musician in 2020, alleging the pair had co-written ‘Circles’ during a 2018 all-night jam session, but Post had since refused to give Armes credit.
When the singer denied the allegations, a jury trial was scheduled for March 21 in a Los Angeles federal court, with Post’s attorneys writing:
“It is an age-old story in the music business that when a song earns the type of runaway success that Circles has garnered, an individual will come out of the woodwork to falsely claim to take credit for the song, and demand unwarranted and unearned windfall profits from the song,” “This lawsuit arises from such a story.”
