McDonald’s Unveils Its ‘Famous Orders’ BTS Meal

On the heels of the seven-member group’s new hit, McDonald’s “famous orders” program unveiled its new BTS meal in collaboration with the South Korean’s new single, “Butter”.

People are reselling paper bags, boxes, drink cups, and sauces linked with the BTS-themed fast-food packaging on eBay — and in some cases, they’re going for more than double what the real meal costs in shops. A 10- or 9-piece nugget (depending on the market), medium french fries, a medium Coke, and new Sweet Chili and Cajun sauces are included in the BTS menu.

One Insider reporter paid $9.68 for a medium-sized McDonald’s meal in New York City, while Insider Erin McDowell paid $12.29 for a large-sized McDonald’s meal in her neighborhood. However, for many enthusiasts, the meal’s packaging is the most valuable collector item. Many people have written about turning bits of the packaging into preserved collector objects, while one TikTok user recorded a video about a companion trying to wipe the grease off of her bag.

A somewhat grease-stained BTS Meal bag is up for sale for $80 plus shipping on eBay, a bag with both sauces are on sale for $200 in another offering, while a white BTS-themed nugget box and both sauces are up for grabs for $193 . The Sweet Chili and Cajun sauces are also available from some eBay dealers (in one example, two of each sauce were being sold for $24.95). A seller on eBay offers to sell the bag, drink cup, McNuggets box, and both sauces — all UV sterilized and shipped from South Korea — for $44, and numerous eBay users have already bought in. Some fans have reported being unable to purchase the BTS-themed packaging, prompting the internet resales. And according to the Los Angeles Times, fans were dissatisfied when they saw that the packaging in the United States did not appear to feature BTS-themed nugget boxes or drink cups. Some Twitter users said that their meal did not come in a BTS-themed bag, implying that the meal’s only unusual packaging was the two new sauces.

When asked for response, McDonald’s noted the nugget boxes and cups are available in different markets throughout the world. “We’re excited to offer custom BTS-themed bags along with our brand new, limited-time Sweet Chili and Cajun Sauces with the BTS Meal here in the U.S,” a McDonald’s USA spokeswoman told Insider via email. “We love seeing fans’ excitement around our new packaging, and this is just one of many ways customers can experience this much anticipated collab – like the McDonald’s x BTS merch collection we dropped earlier this week and digital surprises featuring never-before-seen content of the band available exclusively on the McDonald’s app.”

The cooperation between BTS and McDonald’s was initially revealed on April 19, when McDonald’s tweeted a snapshot of multiple french fries organized in the shape of BTS’ emblem. According to a press statement issued in April, the McDonald’s meal is the first celebrity partnership to be made accessible globally in over 50 regions, with overseas markets launching in May and June. McDonald’s and BTS have also released a product collection on the Weverse Shop app, as well as four weeks of unique digital content on the McDonald’s app. In addition to other global markets, the BTS Meal is presently available for purchase in the United States and South Korea.

Signature meals from celebrities are marketed as a meal deal in McDonald’s “famous orders” campaigns and the Travis Scott meal was the first to be released in September 2020, followed by the J Balvin meal in October 2020.
