Opening up about her personal battle with breast cancer. Tina Knowles has confirmed that, after delaying her mammogram for four years, she was diagnosed with the disease in July of 2024.
The businesswoman and mother to Beyoncé and Solange Knowles underwent surgery in August to remove the cancerous tissue and had a follow up surgery in September to remove a haematoma.
Addressing the health scare in her just released memoir ‘Matriarch,’ the now 71-year old stated:
“My doctor told me I had breast cancer.” “A small tumor in my left breast that was cancerous; the larger tumor in my right breast was benign, but it would also have to go.” “She said I was Stage 1A, assuring me my prognosis was good. The next step was to talk to an oncologist and a breast surgeon.”
Noting that she “immediately” thought of her late father, Lumis Albert Beyincé, who also suffered from cancer, Knowles added:
“I sat there in a daze, rubbing my neck. I immediately thought of my father, all those times taking him to chemo and how much cancer took from him.” “I had been through all of this stuff in life getting to be 70 years old, and now I’m gonna get cancer?”
On Tuesday morning (4.22,) during an appearance on CBS Mornings, Tina explained that her doctors found the cancerous tumor after she kept putting off and missing her scheduled mammogram.
“It was stage 1, which I thought was the earliest stage.” “And then when I told my sister, she said, ‘No, actually, there’s a zero.’ So if I had gone for my mammogram, I would’ve got it at the zero stage. Thank God, it was still very small, hadn’t spread. It was a very slow-spreading cancer,” said Tina Knowles.
In a separate interview with People, the businesswoman confirmed that she is now cancer-free and “doing great”.
