Defending his cameo verse on Kid Rock‘s new faith-based album, Eminem explained that the pair’s long friendship overshadows their difference in political opinions.
Appearing on the track ‘Heal My Faith,’ on Friday (10.16) Rock released his new LP Halfway 2 Jesus with fellow the Detroit native, born Marshall Mathers.
Taken aback that the singer, who’s been über-critical of Trump on tracks such as ‘Campaign Speech,’ could collaborate with Kid Rock, one of the president’s biggest music industry supporters, the collaboration drew criticism.
Several hours after ‘Halfway 2 Jesus’ dropped, the superstar rapper/writer (born Marshall Mathers) took to social media with a message to defend the collaboration, stating “Not about choosing sides, just choosing to make music with my old friend. Praying for all of us.”
In a recent Billboard interview, Kid Rock elaborated on the joint effort, explaining “We’ve been friends for 40 years. I really didn’t want to drag him into my political world,” and adding that the old friends sometimes discuss politics “a little bit, not a tonne” he continued “There’s a lot of stuff we agree on, and we can have a laugh about what we don’t. That’s why I asked him to write a verse for me.”
