To be presented by Janet Jackson, last year’s recipient, at this year’s annual benefit supporting Dancers Against Cancer, Missy Elliott is set to receive the Gala of the Stars Icon Award.
About the four-time Grammy winner, the first female hip-hop artist inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, and the first female rapper inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, Noah Lands, executive producer of the event shared:
“Missy Elliott represents everything the Icon Award celebrates.” “Her groundbreaking artistry has inspired generations of performers, and having Janet Jackson, last year’s honoree, present her with this award makes the moment even more special.”
Prompting her extended break from the public eye, the 55-year old superstar rapper/writer was diagnosed with Graves’ disease in 2008.
In addition to Elliott, the 2026 gala will also honor dancer-choreographer Toni Basil (who topped the Billboard Hot 100 in 1982 with ‘Mickey’) with the Lifetime Achievement Award, as well as director and choreographer Vincent Paterson with the Vanguard Award.
Though the recipient has yet to be announced, Paula Abdul will present the Paula Abdul Legacy Award.
Hosting the October 22 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles, will be dancer and television personality Maksim Chmerkovskiy.
