In response to their not recognizing the first 17 years of her music career, Miley Cyrus has taken the Grammy Awards to task.
Now 31-years-old, the superstar singer/actress released her very first single in 2007 yet it wasn’t until the release of her 2023 song ‘Flowers’ that the academy to, as she put it, took her “seriously”.
In an interview with W Magazine, the former Hannah Montana said:
“No shade, but I’ve been doing this for 20 years, and this is my first time actually being taken seriously at the Grammys?” “I’ve had a hard time figuring out what the measurement is there, because if we want to talk stats and numbers, then where the f**k was I? And if you want to talk, like, impact on culture, then where the f**k was I?” “This is not about arrogance. I am proud of myself.”
Though not the first time she was nominated by The Recording Academy, it was at the 2024 Grammy’s that ‘Flowers’ afforded Cyrus the Record of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance trophies. And while she lost out to Sam Smith’s Lonely Hour LP, in 2015, Miley was nominated in the Best Pop Vocal Album category for Bangerz.
Miley Cyrus’ most recent LP, Endless Summer Vacation (featuring ‘Flowers’) topped the UK album charts but peaked at #3 in the US, while her 2013 Bangerz full length was a #1 LP around the world and sold over one million copies in the United States alone.
