By organizing a surprise Beatles reunion with Ringo Starr, on Thursday evening (12.19) Paul McCartney made the final show of his Got Back tour a night to remember.
During his encore performance, after telling the audience, “We’ve got another surprise for you. Bring to the stage the mighty, the one and only Mr Ringo Starr,” Sir Paul brought out his former Beatles bandmate at London’s O2 Arena.
As one would expect, the crowd went wild when the iconic drummer walked onto the stage, and after flashing his signature peace hand signs and exchanging a hug, McCartney said, “Should we rock? Get on your kit la.”
After Ringo took a seat behind the skins, he and Paul played two classic Beatles songs ‘Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band’ and ‘Helter Skelter.’
According to social media videos, following his surprise performance, Starr told the audience “I’m off now but I’ve had a great night. Love you all, especially this man,” after which McCartney added, “Ringo, I wanted to say that on behalf of us all, we love you all… Goodbye Ringo, I will see you soon. Ringo Starr!”
The last two surviving members of the Beatles quartet, Paul and Ringo most recently performed together on Paul’s Freshen Up tour in 2019 and during Ringo’s induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2015.
Not the only surprise guest during the now 82-year-old’s concert, Paul also brought out Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood for a rendition of ‘Get Back.’
