On December 7, during his first ever musical guest appearance of Saturday Night Live, Shaboozey performed his mega-hit “A Bar Song (Tipsy),” and brand new country ballad, “Good News.”
Having recently tied the record (previously established by Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road”) by securing a #1 Billboard Hot 100 charter for 19 weeks, ‘A Bar Song …’ draws on J-Kwon’s 2004 song “Tipsy,” and is nominated for Song of the Year and Best Country Solo Performance at the upcoming Grammys.
Included in his current LP Where I’ve Been, Isn’t Where I’m Going, the musician (born Collins Obinna Chibueze) also performed “Good News,” which he released in November.
After learning of his six Grammy nods, the American-born rapper/writer/producer/artist he took to social media and wrote:
“This moment is something I’ve dreamt about ever since I started recording music. Even with that said, nothing could’ve prepared me for the moment when I finally heard my name called today!” “I’m thankful for everyone who ever believed and took a chance on me. For those who looked out for me when I needed it the most. I’m grateful for every couch I slept on, every no I was ever told, every heartbreak, and every tear I shed over achieving my dreams.
