As the longest running sketch comedy show’s first musical guest of 2021, by his own admission, Machine Gun Kelly had the “best night ever” during Saturday Night Live on January 30th.
Hosted by The Office and Jack Ryan actor John Krasinski, MGK performed two songs from his October Billboard Top 200 chart topping album, Tickets to My Downfall. The tall, bar room paler, tattoo’ed singer opened with an energetic performance of “My Ex’s Best Friend,” as he strummed hard on his pink guitar alongside his backing band. For his second offering, the bleached-hair star slowed things down with the emotional “Lonely,” a song about his late father, who died in July.
For those wondering why there was a lack of lighting effects during his second song, Kelly noted the next day that, “10 seconds before we played ‘lonely’ on SNL, they came up and said the whole lighting board and set up we had for the performance crashed.” He called it “the best thing that could’ve happened.” Watch both performances here.
In addition this his musical appearances, below is video of the 30-year-old horsing around with a fellow band member before falling off the SNL stage during the shows finale.
