Following the news that their lead singer, Ronnie Platt was diagnosed with thyroid cancer, Kansas has cancelled two shows.
After fronting the band for ten years, the now 64-year old singer took to social media with his diagnosis, assuring fans that his cancer was caught in its early stages, writing:
“For all of you asking, Tuesday I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer but before everyone gets all excited, it has a 99 per cent survival rate. It has not spread. It’s contained to my thyroid. I just have to have my thyroid removed. Go through some rehab time and be right back in the saddle.”
Ending his post by asking readers for “positive thoughts and prayers,” Platt added “As it has been put to me, this is just a bump in the road and will be behind me very soon! So everyone please carry on!”
In advance of the announcement, the legendary rock band cancelled their February 21 and March 1 shows in New Orleans and Louisiana, respectively, citing “band illness”
Best known for their hit songs ‘Carry On Wayward Son’ (1976) and ‘Dust in the Wind’ (1978,) Kansas celebrated their 50th anniversary in 2023.
Former lead singer of the band Shooting Star, Ronnie Platt took over as lead singer of Kansas in 2014, replacing Steve Walsh.
