Haim Reinvent Adam Sandler’s ‘Hanukkah Song’: Look + Listen

As this winter’s Jewish holiday comes to an end Haim delivered a special music treat with their re-invented Adam Sandler’s classic, “Hanukkah Song.”

Featuring a tasty new assortment of famous Jewish celebrities and the musical trio of Este, Danielle, and Alana Haim add Maya Rudolph followed by the National’s Aaron and Bryce Dessner, as well as Japanese Breakfast’s Michelle Zauner along with the lyrics “Doja Cat’s half Jewish, Chalamet’s half too/Put ‘em both together, what a fine lookin’ Jew!” And the song’s reaches its crescendo with topical, tongue-twisting wordplay “So don’t get Omicronukkah on this lovely, lovely Hanukkah.” “RIP Stephen Sondheimukkah, we love you on this Hanukkah.”

So proud of their take on his original 1995 Saturday Night Live previewed song, Adam Sandler retweeted the clip exclaiming, “Love you ladies! You are three badass Jews!”)

Not the first time the sister act’s offered up annual Hanukkah treats, back in 2017, the group shared an original ode to the Maccabees, latkes, and Manischewitz wine, and in 2019 the trio contributed a cover of Leonard Cohen’s “If It Be Your Will” to the compilation, Hanukkah+.

Last year, Haim delivered a full eight days of music treats, including an admittedly goyish, but no less endearing, spoof of the Waitresses’ 1987 holiday classic, “Christmas Wrapping.”
