Reflected in ‘Still Bad,’ her her second comeback single of 2025, Lizzo declares “I’m still surviving,” and promises to “throw her phone away” as she gets tired of a man’s behavior.
The superstar singer’s first solo offering in three years, the title track is from his forthcoming full length of the same name comes in the wake of several sexual harassment lawsuits Lizzo’s faced in recent years.
As reflected in such lyrics as “After everything, I’m still surviving and I’m still bad, baby, so b**** I can’t complain,” the now 36-year-old musician was hit with multiple complaints in 2023 by a number her former backing dancers alleging that Lizzo subjected them to harassment.
During a recent performance at the Wiltern Theater in Los Angeles, the artist (born Melissa Viviane Jefferson) addressed the impact legal matters have had on her mental health that left her so “deeply hurt” she “didn’t want to live anymore,” adding “I named (my album ‘Love in Real Life’) because about a year and a half ago – it’s so hard for me to talk about – I was in such a dark, deep depression.” “I was so heartbroken by the world and so deeply hurt that I didn’t want to live anymore, and I was so deeply afraid of people that I didn’t want to be seen. “Eventually, I got over that fear.”
Confirming that it was one fan’s words that pulled her through the depression, Lizzo said:
“As I was walking through the crowd to get to my spot, something miraculous happened. “Somebody, who I didn’t know, looked at me and said, ‘Lizzo, I love you.’ And they reached out, and I reached back, and we hugged, and it felt so damn good.” And caalling the moment “f****** life-saving”, she added “After that experience I was like, ‘Damn, you can’t get this s*** on the Internet, bro.” “This is the kind of love you can only get in real life.”
The singer shared her story in hopes of reaching others who deal with “depression, or darkness, or felt so betrayed by someone they trusted or was lied on and hated on for those lies”.
At press time, the hitmaker still faces multiple ongoing lawsuits filed by former employees who claim sexual and racial harassment and a toxic work environment. She maintains the allegations against her are untrue.
Calling them “outrageous” and “unbelievable,” the multi-award winner has denied the dancers’ claims against her.
