Scheduled to make his live return at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards, Sean “Diddy” Combs will receive the 2023 Global Icon Award.
On Tuesday (9.06,) MTV formally announced that the legendary rapper/producer/business entrepreneur would be presented with the prize during the September 12 event at New Jersey’s Prudential Center
The groundbreaking video Network stated the hip hop mogul was recognized for his “unparalleled career and continued influence that has achieved unrivaled global success in music and beyond”.
Previous recipients of the Global Icon Award have included the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Foo Fighters.
In addition to the the award ceremony, the musician (born Sean Love Combs) would also perform live at the VMAs for the first time since 2005. Lil Wayne, Demi Lovato, Karol G, Doja Cat, Anitta, Kelsea Ballerini, and K-pop group Stray Kids are also slated to appear.
In music recording news, rather than selling his catalogue, Diddy – aka Puff Daddy, Puffy, P. Diddy, or Diddy – has announced that he will be returning the music publishing rights back to the artists at his Bad Boy Records label – including The Notorious B.I.G. and Faith Evans.
In August, it was confirmed that Colombian-born chart-topper Shakira will be the recipient of the 2023 Video Vanguard Award.
