Taking the stage in a shimmering, black fringe dress on Sunday night (6.25) during the BET Awards, Patti LaBelle paid tribute to Tina Turner, with a lively rendition of the Queen of Rock‘s classic “The Best.”
“Give it up for Tina Turner,” said LaBelle at the start of the performance, but even ‘the best’ stumble at times as Patti experienced a technical issue with the show’s teleprompter and flubbed some of the song’s lyrics.
“I’m trying y’all,” she told the studio audience as she briefly improvised.
In a star-studded tribute to hip-hop’s most significant moments, curated by Kid Capri, joined Bia, Coi Leray, Cutty Ranks, Fat Joe, Soulja Boy and The Sugarhill Gang, each of whom took the stage at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.
