Honest about embracing religion after the enormous success of his 2021 hit, ‘Pepas,’ during a Miami concert in February Farruko stated “Me, being number one, having the best cars, having it all, I couldn’t see my children.” “I destroyed my first family. I hurt a woman who loved me just the way I was.”
Following his #1 Billboard charting single, the artist (born Carlos Efrén Reyes Rosado) has continued to focus on religion, putting his beliefs at the forefront of his concerts and performances, but not everyone’s embraced the transformation. At the Miami show where Farruko spoke about God and his faith and refused to perform “Pepas” in full, he angered fans who were expecting to hear the party anthems that made the musician famous.
Now, in a Mike Ho-directed video for his new song “My Lova,” the Puerto Rican artist goes deeper into the turmoil he’s faced during the last several months. Showing Farruko carrying a cross as people mock and jeer him, the visuals are intense and make biblical references to Jesus.
Before premiering the video, earlier this week Farruko performed the track at the Latin American Music Awards and posted a short clip on Instagram, writing “True love comes through repentance and forgiveness — remember that.”
