Rosalía and the Weeknd come together during their steamy video for new “La Fama” collaboration.
The first single from the Spanish diva’s forthcoming album, Motomami, Rosalía experiments with Dominican bachata for the first time as her single addresses the double-edged sword of fame.
The video for “La Fama” is set in a dimly lit nightclub where actor Danny Trejo serves as the master of ceremonies introducing La Fama (‘Fame’ in English) as the night’s performer. Warning the audience that “She’s not for everyone, she will pierce your heart.” “And she will be your only obsession,” Rosalía takes the stage when she and The Weeknd lock glances and she dances her way to his table trading flirtatious verses in Spanish.
In a statement about the song Rosalía said: “I wanted to write, in my own way, a bachata with a little story around ambition.” “Taking as a reference the lyrics of Ruben Blades or Patti Smith and the songs of Aventura, I ended up writing a story of romance with fame.”
Not the first time the Spanish and Canadian artists have joined musical forces, Rosalía and the Weeknd previously teamed up on a remix of his “Blinding Lights.”
