Dropping 275 pounds, Jelly Roll revealed how he shed the weight without using weight-loss medications.
Having tipped the scale at 540 pounds at his heaviest, over the past two years the superstar singer/rapper has shared regular updates about his health journey.
In an interview for U.S. Men’s Health magazine published on Friday (1.02,) the musician (born Jason DeFord ) confirmed that he had reached his target weight of 265 pounds.
While the artist tried a GLP-1 medication at the start, he stopped using the medication after just “two weeks,” and reflecting on his slimmed-down physique, the 41-year old explained that tackling his food addiction problem was key, stating:
“Once I started treating food like an addiction, it started changing everything for me.” “When I started really looking at the source of why I was eating. What was I eating for?”Β
Following a full physical where doctors discovered his high cholesterol and the testosterone level of a “preteen boy,” the Tennessee-native started hormone therapy and hired chef/sports nutritionist Ian Larios to improve his diet.Β
“A lot of dudes get to their bottom dollar, and we’re like, ‘I’m changing! Tomorrow in the morning when I wake up, I’m a different person!’ We attack it all at once. ‘I’m gonna run! I’m gonna lift! I’m gonna eat right.” “Listen, man, because I’ve done this before: Just pick one of those. And you know which one you need to pick? Food. Start there,” said Jelly.
Recalling how he was filled with a “never-ending sadness” at the height of his weight issues, the Grammy award winner added:
“I was a prisoner to my own body. Dude, wiping my a*s was a problem. Washing myself properly was a problem. Getting in cars. Every decision I made in life had to be based on my weight.”
