Elton John’s ‘Touched By Gold’ Documentary

Created in association with the World Gold Council, Elton John has shared an intimate look into his iconic career and life in “Touched by Gold,” a new documentary that explores the profound influence gold has played as a personal and professional inspiration throughout his journey.

Revealing how the precious metal has shaped the superstar singer/songwriter’s style, music, and sense of identity,”Touched by Gold” affords the viewer access to Elton John’s private archives including, but not limited to, his legendary stage costumes and accessories to his cherished gold record awards.

The documentary demonstrates how gold has been a constant presence in the now 78-year old musician’s story, or as Elton says “From the moment I was presented with my first gold disc in 1970, gold has been there throughout some of my defining moments.” “It has always had a magic that inspires my music, my style, and the way I express myself.”

Going beyond fashion and artistry, the visual piece also focuses of gold’s vital, yet lesser-known, role in medicine and science with the musician (born Reginald Kenneth Dwight) addressing its critical use in modern pacemakers, a technology he has relied on since the late 1990’s. The documentary also touches on the high-priced metal’s role in developing HIV detection technologies, a cause close to iconic performer’s heart through the Elton John AIDS Foundation. Since its 1992 inception, the organization has raised $650,000,000.00+ to combat HIV stigma and expand access to health care.

Directed by Toby Trackman, “Touched by Gold” illustrates that gold is far more than a financial asset. It is an enduring part of global culture and a catalyst for innovation and creativity.

World Gold Council CEO David Tait stated his hope that the film will “deepen understanding of gold’s critical role in society, not just as a store of value, but as a catalyst for innovation, creativity and the positive development of societies and economies.”

“Touched by Gold” is available now, streaming worldwide on TouchedByGold.com.
