In the new Elliot Mint memoir, We All Shine On: John, Yoko, and Me, the author details how Yoko Ono was “forced” to listen to her husband, John Lennon‘s infidelity at a party with another woman.
The book alleges that on the night of Richard Nixon’s election in 1968, Lennon was so upset by the politician winning that he got inebriated and had “loud, raucous sex” with another woman in their bedroom, while attending guests tried to ignore the noise.
“Throughout it all, Yoko sat on the sofa, in stunned, mortified silence, as other guests began awkwardly getting up to leave – until they realized that their coats were in the bedroom where John was having sex,” penned the now 79-year old Elliot.
In an interview with People magazine, the media consultant said that the scene was excruciating:
“He was placing his wife in the most embarrassing position that you could ever place a woman in – having a romp in the hay in another room with thin walls while your wife was attending a small party and could hear everything.” “Yoko is a very stoic woman, but it would have severe consequences.”
Elliot went on to explain that the event created a divide Lennon and Ono who struggled to repair the damage, adding that Yoko told him, “I can forgive him, but I don’t know if I can ever forget what happened. I don’t know if it will ever be the same.”
