The Chainsmokers Drop ‘Summertime Friends’: Look + Listen

Inspired by band member Drew Taggart’s romantic journey, The Chainsmokers have released their brand new single, “Summertime Friends.”

In a lengthy Instagram post about the pensive track that arrived alongside a VHS-style music video, Taggart took to social media and shared the inspiration behind the composition about a relationship they don’t want to end.

“I fell in love with this girl named Mari last spring which you probably know by now if you if you’ve been following this page for the last 6 months.” “A few weeks after we started hanging out i was in NYC in the studio and wrote this song called ‘Summertime Friends’ about the night we met.” “I had run into her at this party in LA (classic). We had known each other in passing for a couple years but never had a substantial conversation. She said hi to me at the bar where I was stuck making small talk with a couple I didn’t really know… It was laughable how much we had in common. I remember thinking ‘how has it taking this long for us to talk?’ I think I knew then that we were supposed to be together. Luckily I had the courage to ask for her number at the end of the night and luckily she was feeling open minded.” “I love writing about small moments especially ones with tension like this. I hope it makes you feel something.”

“Summertime Friends” follows several one-off singles by the pop/dance duo including “Celular” with Nicky Jam and Maluma, and their most recent full length, So Far So Good, that dropped in 2022.

Earlier this year, Taggart and his bandmate Alex Pall appeared on the Call Her Daddy podcast to talk about love, sex, and having threesomes and admitting to having shared a sexual partner on more than one occasion. “It’s been a long time,” said Pall. “It was also the days when we used to have to share hotel rooms. In Europe, they have the two beds, they don’t even split them apart … so it’s almost by force that we were forced into these scenarios.”
