After taking the MTV VMA Artist Director prize, Taylor Swift surpassed Beyoncé as MTV Video Music Awards’ most-awarded artist of all time.
Having previously tied Mrs Carter with 30 trophies apiece, Swift bested her biggest competitor on Sunday (9.27) at LA’s Peacock Theater, by taking home the newly introduced award category.
During her acceptance speech, the superstar singer/songwriter told her audience:
“I want to say thank you to MTV for giving this platform to music videos so long ago.”
Adding that she personally wrote and directed 18 of the 60 or so music videos over the course of her career, the 36-year old stated:
“The main reason why I love writing and directing music videos so much is because you, the fans, make it so much fun.” “You make it so rewarding.”
Introduced in 2026, the artist-director prize was established to recognize musical artists “whose directorial work has advanced the art of music video and storytelling”.
Including Video of the Year, Artist of the Year, Best Pop, Best Direction, Best Art Direction, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, Best Choreography, Best Visual Effects, Best Album and Song of the Summer, Taylor Swift was nominated for 11 different awards at this year’s event.
