Accusing the superstar singer/songwriter of millions of dollars lost, Sting is reportedly being sued by his former bandmates in The Police.
Born Gordon Sumner, the now 73-year-old iconic frontman is being taken to court by guitarist Andy Summers and drummer Stewart Copeland, for “substantial” damages.
In a statement from a reliable source “This has been coming for quite some time. Lawyers tried repeatedly to reach an out-of-court settlement but hit a stalemate.” “Andy and Stewart decided there was no alternative than court so pressed the button. They say they are owed millions in lost royalties.”
According to The Sun in the UK, the musicians are suing both Sting and his company, Magnetic Publishing Limited, and their case is listed at London’s High Court under “general commercial contracts and arrangements”.
Formed in 1977, The Police broke up in 1984, after which Sting launched a successful solo career and is credited as the only songwriter on the group’s most successful singles, including ‘Roxanne,’ ‘Message in a Bottle,’ ‘Don’t Stand So Close to Me,’ ‘Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic, and ‘Every Breath You Take’ (which was the best-selling single of 1983 and the fifth best-selling of the ‘1980s, with Sting reportedly receiving $744,000 a year in royalties just from that track alone.)
