On Sunday night (6.07,) during the 2026 Tony Awards, Pink praised the “brave” artists of Broadway theatre as she hosted the Radio City Music Hall event.
Taking to the stage for a monologue, the superstar singer/songwriter (Born Alecia Beth Moore,) addressed the tense political climate in the United States, stating
“We go to a Broadway show to look at what the state of the world is. This year, the worst parts of history began repeating itself and we were given (play) Liberation and (musical) Ragtime.” “This year, our country became more divided than ever, and we were given (musical) Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York).”
Referencing the continued attacks against members of the transgender community, the 46-year old mother of two added:
“This year, our trans siblings began to lose even more rights, and we were given (reimagining of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s classic 1981 musical) Cats: A Jellicle Ball.” “Theatre is like group therapy: We journey to Midtown not knowing one another. We laugh and cry together, and by the time we leave, we have a different perspective on life. And how much (liquorice-type candy) Twizzlers should cost.” “Broadway theatre is brave.”
Supported at the ceremony by her husband Carey Hart, daughter Willow, and son Jameson, amid her speech, the Pennsylvania-born musician acknowledged 15-year-old Willow’s passion for theatre, declaring:
“Tonight, I am here as Broadway’s biggest fan – well, second biggest next to my daughter, Willow.” “I don’t know where she is (in the venue), but I did not take this job so my kid could get Broadway selfies, although (we have done that backstage before)… and a couple for mama.”
Liberation by Bess Wohl won the Tony Award for Best Play, while Schmigadoon! took home Best Musical at the event.
