For what will be his final performance, Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath are preparing to reunite this summer.
On Wednesday (2.05,), Ozzy’s wife Sharon Osbourne and bandmate Tony Iommi took to social media announcing the final one-of-a-kind show dubbed Back To The Beginning at Birmingham’s Villa Park on 5 July.
The iconic hard rock band’s first show in two decades, the headlining performance will see the original line-up of Ozzy, Tony, Bill Ward and Geezer Butler take to the stage together.
Additional groups scheduled to perform at the one-day festival include Metallica, Pantera, Lamb Of God, Slayer, Gojira, Anthrax, and a supergroup made up of Slash, Wolfgang Van Halen, Billy Corgan, Fred Durst and Tom Morello.
Due to his Parkinson’s disease and spinal injuries. Ozzy’s been unable to tour in recent years, however, the legendary front man will play a short solo set before joining his bandmates.
In an interview with BBC News, Sharon said that her now 76-year old husband was “doing really great”. “He’s doing great. He’s doing really great,” she said. “He’s so excited about this, about being with the guys again and all his friends. It’s exciting for everyone.”
Confirming that the concert will be her husband’s very last performance, Mrs Osbourne said “Ozzy didn’t have a chance to say goodbye to his friends, to his fans, and he feels there’s no been no full stop,” she told the outlet. “This is his full stop.”
Serving as the festival’s musical director, Rage Against The Machine guitarist Tom Morello has declared the event will be “the greatest heavy metal show ever,” the proceeds from which will go to Cure Parkinson’s, Birmingham Children’s Hospital and Acorn Children’s Hospice.
