After being removed her from his Rebel Ragers Tour, M.I.A. is suing Kid Cudi for some $2,800,000.00
After receiving messages from upset fans concerning her “offensive remarks” during a show, in May Cudi announced that the artist (born Mathangi “Maya” Arulpragasam) was being removed.
In a May 29 complaint filed in the United States Court District of California Western Division and obtained by Rolling Stone, the British/Sri Lanken-born songstress claims that Kid Cudi knew her political beliefs and reputation before he asked her to open the tour, alleging:
“M.I.A. was terminated to generate publicity for the tour, which has struggled with ticket sales.” “She was contractually allowed to say whatever she wanted on stage. M.I.A. now holds Kid Cudi accountable for his bad faith destruction of her contractual rights, business opportunities, and reputation.”
It was during her monologue at the May 2 Dallas show that M.I.A. was loudly booed for her opinions.
“I’ve been cancelled for many reasons. I never thought I would be cancelled for being a brown Republican voter,” stated the the 50-year old singer.
In a Sunday (5.31) statement shared with Rolling Stone, a representative for M.I.A. said “Kid Cudi’s attempts to silence freedom of artistic expression and speech on his Rebel Rager’s Tour cannot go unchallenged.” “Censorship is something M.I.A has fought against her whole career.”
In addition to $2,800,000.00 from the purported guarantee, the lawsuit also seeks compensatory damages exceeding $75,000.00 legal fees, and other further relief the court may deem appropriate.
