With the release of his debut full length just several weeks away, controversial rapper Lil Nas X is prepared to bust out … of his cocoon.
Preempting his new collection, Lil Nas X (born Montero Lamar Hill) took to Twitter to share a new teaser for his Montero LP with four different versions of the the rapper in multi-colored butterfly cocoons hanging off the vines of a purple plant. As the front image pulsates, supported by an acoustic guitar riffs, the musician repeats “Montero, wake up. It’s time.”
The new clip comes just two days after the Sony Music artist officially unveiled the first official trailer for his long-awaited first album scheduled for Friday, 9.17 release. In the initial trailer, a futuristic news report (narrated by Lil Nas X in a blond bowl haircut) details the events of the rapper’s escape from Montero State Prison in his “Industry Baby” video, before teasing fans with a new song.
“Creating this album has been therapy for me,” said the musician in a tweet accompanying the trailer. “I’ve learned to let go of trying to control people’s perception of who I am, what I can do, and where I will be. I’ve realized the only opinion of me that really matters is my own.”
