John Legend Addresses The Kanye West Downfall

Having collaborated with Kanye West a number of times throughout the years – including It’s ‘Over’ and ‘Number One’ – John Legend has shared his views on the downward spiral of the forever embattled rapper.

On more than one occasion, West made repeated antisemitic comments, and sparked major controversy when he released a new song and music video that glorified Adolf Hitler. He provoked a backlash when he released his ‘Heil Hitler’ single on 8 May, which coincided with the 80th anniversary of VE Day in Europe and was subsequently shunned by the music community with every streaming service reportedly boycotting the offensive track.

Music critics panned the tune, stating that it appeared to be crafted purely as an exercise to cause offense and offered no creative merit.

Now 46-years-old, Legend admits the behavior of his former collaborator has been uncomfortable to witness and can’t help but remember when West acted as an executive producer on his 2004 debut album, Get Lifted.

In a recent interview with The Times, John said:

“Back then, Kanye was very passionate, very gifted, and he had big dreams not only for himself but also for all the people around him.” “He had so much optimism, so much creativity. It does feel sad, sometimes shocking, to see where he is now.”
