On their newest collaboration, Doja Cat and SZA come together for the remix of the SOS hit, “Kill Bill,” and hours before its drop, Doja was tweeting SZA with “sis… I did something bad.”
The new version starts with Doja (born Amala Ratna Zandile Dlamini) delivering her verse, followed by SZA’s original chorus. “I’m in a funk so I bought a bouquet of roses and cut them up at your doorstep/Your new neighborhood is gorgeous/I paid a lot of money for the fragrances you wore when we were dating/And I sold some lemonade just to afford them.”
Doja was previously prepped to join SZA (born Solana Imani Rowe) on “Shirt,” but an emergency tonsil procedure precluded the opportunity. “She had surgery, she had to have that emergency, like, vocal cord surgery and she wasn’t ready in the time that we needed to get the song done,” SZA told HOT 97.
Prior to ‘Kill Bill’ the two superstars joined forces in 2021 on “Kiss Me More,” the disco-inflected single with each musician taking turns during the sung and rap sections.
Doja recently described her full length, Planet Her, as “controlled chaos,” adding, “I’m crazy about putting different genres into the same album or even into the same song.” That same sensibility translates to her otherworldly takes on couture, and landed her on Rolling Stone’s 25 Most Stylish Musicians of 2023.
SZA ended her SOS tour in March and brought out Phoebe Bridgers to perform a rendition of “Ghost in the Machine” and Lizzo for the duo’s “Special” remix.
