Because they were alleged to have taken place in Europe, and not in the United States where the lawsuit was filed, a lawsuit filed against Lizzo‘s production company has been formally dismissed.
Alleging she’d been racially and sexually harassed by members of Lizzo’s management team in September on 2023, Asha Daniels, one of Lizzo’s former stylists sued the singer’s Big Grrrl Big Tour company, claiming the business was a hostile work environment and that she was owed money for unpaid overtime.
Even if the allegations were true, because the incidents had taken place outside American jurisdiction when the plaintiff was working for Lizzo while on tour in Europe, this week Judge Fernando L Aenlle-Rocha granted a partial motion to dismiss several of Daniels’ claims, stating:
“These allegations do not establish plausibly that any portion of plaintiff’s claim arose from work performed in the United States or qualifying territories.”
The judge also declared that Daniels had failed to demonstrate she had worked unpaid overtime hours and therefore determined Lizzo and her management team could not be held personally liable for any damages as individual defendants.
The decision supported previous comments by Lizzo’s publicist Stefan Friedman who told ABC News in September 2023 that Daniels “never actually met or even spoke with Lizzo”.
