Weeks before his trial is due to start, Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs has lost one of the attorneys working on his case.
In September of 2024, the 55-year old Combs, was arrested in Manhattan and charged with sex trafficking, racketeering and transportation to engage in prostitution.
Charges the superstar rapper/business man vehemently denied and pled not guilty to, Puffy is due to stand trial in May and has been working with lawyers including Anthony Ricco, Marc Agnifilo, Teny Geragos and three others on his defense.
Stating that he could not continue with the preparations for the upcoming trial, on Friday (2.21,), Ricco filed a motion to walk away from the case.
In his Southern District of New York filing, the attorney made his intention to step down clear with a letter that reads, per The Hollywood Reporter, “Although I have provided Sean Combs with the high level of legal representation expected by the court, under no circumstances can I continue to effectively serve as counsel for Sean Combs, consistent with the ABA Standards for Criminal Justice.”
The letter went on to state that Ricco’s withdrawal would not preclude plans for the case to begin in May, and confirmed that the musician will still be represented by Agnifilo, Geragos and the other three attorneys working on the case on behalf of the defendant.
Combs has been behind bars at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn since his September 2024 arrest and had bail denied three times.
