Concerning his bid to overturn the jury’s verdict that found the former hip-hop mogul guilty on prostitution charges, Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs returned to court for a hearing.
Entering US District Judge Arun Subramanian’s courtroom in New York City, the musician/convicted felon smiled, embraced his attorneys, and waved to his family seated in the audience.
During the hearing, the state prosecutors and the defendant’s attorneys were each given 20 minutes to present their cases.
Because the federal law that prohibits transportation for the purposes of prostitution should “only be applied to pimping” and their client “was only an alleged consumer,” lawyers for Combs argued that he should have his conviction overturned.
Federal prosecutors told the judge the conviction deserved to be upheld in large part because, even as a voyeur, Combs displayed violence.
Should Judge Subramanian uphold his conviction, Puff Daddy will be sentenced on October 3, and faces up to two decades in prison should the July 2 conviction stand, and If so, in a court filing earlier this week, Puffy’s lawyers suggested a 14-month sentence along with credit for time served.
Though the judge did not immediately rule on the motion to acquit Combs or grant a retrial, he indicated the parties would soon have his decision.
