Broadway Star Calls Out Madonna

During his appearance on Watch What Happens Live! with Andy Cohen, Broadway star Anthony Ramos, who assumed two roles in the theatrical production of Hamilton, was asked about the most “terrifying” celebrity he’d ever spotted in the audience while performing.

During a 2015 performance of the ongoing Broadway musical, the actor called out Madonna for allegedly sitting in the audience looking at her iPad. While imitating her staring down at her device, the 35-year old Ramos told the shows host:

“The most terrifying was Madonna with her iPad in her face. She was like this the whole time.” ” “I was like: ‘Damn, shorty,’ I’m like: ‘If you not enjoying it that much, you know the door’s right there. You ain’t gotta stay here.'”

It was ten years ago that Anthony originated the dual role of Philip Hamilton and John Laurens in Lin-Manuel Miranda’s musical, and subsequently left the production in November of 2016.  That year, Miranda, who also starred as Alexander Hamilton, and cryptically revealed that he had banned a celebrity from going backstage after the show. At the time he took to X/Twitter with “Tonight was the first time I asked stage management NOT to allow a celebrity (who was texting all through Act 2) backstage. #noselfieforyou.” It was widely rumored that Miranda was referring to Madonna; however, he never confirmed the speculation.

Madonna’s publicist later responded to the rumors, telling Us Weekly, “It’s not true. She was invited backstage four different times. She texted post show when they were doing their fundraising pitch. Madonna had already made a generous donation.”
