Taking to Instagram on Monday (12.22,) Barry Manilow confirmed a “cancerous spot” in his left lung.
Having it removed via surgery after the lung cancer diagnosis, the superstar singer/songwriter said:
“As many of you know, I recently went through six weeks of bronchitis followed by a relapse of another five weeks.” “Even though I was over the bronchitis and back on stage at the Westgate Las Vegas, my wonderful doctor ordered an MRI just to make sure that everything was OK. The MRI discovered a cancerous spot on my left lung that needs to be removed. It’s pure luck (and a great doctor) that it was found so early. That’s the good news.”
Preparing to undergo surgery, the 82-year old music icon completed his annual Christmas: A Gift of Love charity concert series on Sunday (12.21,) adding:
“The doctors do not believe it has spread, and I’m taking tests to confirm their diagnosis. So, that’s it. No chemo. No radiation. Just chicken soup and I Love Lucy reruns.” “The only follow-up is a month to recover and that means we have to reschedule the January arena concerts.”
Apologizing to his fans for making them “change their plans,” the former jingle writer shared a list of rescheduled shows. And, assuring his followers that he’ll be back performing at his “home away from home” at the Westgate Las Vegas on Valentine’s Day weekend, he concluded his update on a positive note with “Something tells me that February weekend is going to be one big party!”
