Asaf Avidan’s ‘Darkness Song’ Gets Eric Kupper Remix Treatment: Listen

Following the release of his Anagnorisis album, Asaf Avidan‘s “Darkness Song” single has received a Herculean remix by American wünderkind producer Eric Kupper.

The original Leonard Cohen-esque offering is a haunting, vocally-driven masterpiece written and recorded by the Israeli-born singer/songwriter/instrumentalist who croons “I’ve learned to hold the line / And to never look away / I’ve taught myself the lies / That will get me through the day” over a calmly-played piano and chorused background. Maintaining the full melody and lyrical integrity of the album version, however, club culture veteran Eric Kupper increases the appeal by adding a mysterious 4/4 tempo, dark synths and multiple percussive effects.

Making the best use of a particularly unique environment during the creation of the Anagnorisis full length, Avidan created his latest Telmavar Records-release as the grip of COVID-19 increased throughout rural Italy . Speaking about the project, the über creative stated, “I think they are the frantic search for a cohesive thread in a head that’s full of an infinite amount of voices” – a fitting summation of a year unlike any other.
