In an unexpected move Jennifer Lopez has canceled the entirety of her 2024 tour to spend more time with loved ones.
About the abrupt announcement, J-Lo said “I am completely heartsick and devastated about letting you down.” “Please know that I wouldn’t do this if I didn’t feel that it was absolutely necessary. I promise I will make it up to you and we will all be together again. I love you all so much. Until next time…”
In promoting the “This Is Me… Live” tour representatives for Live Nation added “Jennifer is taking time off to be with her children, family, and close friends.”
For those who purchased tickets through Ticketmaster, refunds will automatically be issued and those who purchased tickets on third-party site will need to contact those platforms for details.
Originally scheduled to launch June 26 in Orlando and run through August 31 in Houston, the 34-date “This Is Me… Live” tour was to be Lopez’s first headlining North American trek in five years, in support of This Is Me… Now, her first studio LP in a decade (following 2014’s A.K.A.). Despite her enormous popularity there were early signs that her This Is Me… Now era was in trouble when the album debuted at #38 on the Billboard 200 in February … the first time a Lopez LP did not break the top 20.
Come March, Lopez quietly canceled seven shows on the tour and during the following few weeks Variety reported that the multi-hyphenate and her team had rebranded the shows with a “Greatest Hits” tag amidst reports of low ticket sales.
Notwithstanding her music career, in recent weeks Lopez has been focused on promoting her new movie, Atlas, with Simu Liu, which just premiered on Netflix, yet rumors have also been circulating in the tabloids that her marriage to Ben Affleck is “not in the best place.” During an Atlas promotional stop in Mexico City, a reporter tried to ask Lopez about the situation, to which Liu said, “Ok, we’re not doing that,” and Lopez added, “You know better than that.”
Lopez’s relationship with Affleck was very wrapped up in This Is Me… Now, as well as its predecessor, 2002’s This Is Me… Then, which she made when the couple was dating for the first time. This Is Me… Now was accompanied by a self-funded movie musical inspired by the rekindling of her romance with Affleck and their marriage in 2022. Affleck also appeared in The Greatest Love Story Never Told, a documentary about the making of the new album and movie.
