Having already begun creating the musical score for Back to Black, Nick Cave will produce the soundtrack for a movie about Amy Winehouse’s life and premature death.
In addition to the movie featuring Amy’s original repertoire, the film’s director Sam Taylor-Wood felt that Cave and his longtime musical collaborator Warren Ellis were the ideal pair to craft the project’s backing repertoire.
In the media release about the iconic musician’s biopic, Sam stated:
“Nick and Warren were the only musicians in my mind to score Back to Black.” “Over the years, I’ve listened to everything they’ve composed and longed to realize the dream of working together.’ “Their sensibility as well as understanding of this story has led to a profoundly deep and moving film score.”
Not their first foray in the movie soundscape world, Nick and Warren wrote the soundtrack for the Marilyn Monroe biopic, Blonde, and it appears they’ve thus far completed some 30 minutes’ worth of music for the Winehouse production.
Scheduled for a proper April 12 UK released, Back to Black will address Amy’s rise to international music stardom, as well as her troublesome marriage to Blake Fielder-Civil.
Previously featured in the TV series Industry, and COBRA, Marisa Abela will portray Amy Winehouse and Jack O’Connell (best known for his role as James Cook in the TV series Skins,) will play Blake.
