The forever embattled Demi Lovato is currently under fire for partnering with the conspiracy theory website Gaia.
Effective week, the 29-year-old singer, who now uses they/them pronouns, took to Instagram to post an advertisement for the Gaia website, indicating that they are now one of the site’s ambassadors along with the following caption beneath a photo of them holding up their phone with the site open.:
“Thrilled to be a @wearegaia ambassador Understanding the world around us (the known and the unknown) is so exciting to me!”
The singer/actress has now come under scrutiny for promoting the site, which considers itself the “Netflix of spirituality”, a platform that contains “hoaxes about sinister aliens, vaccines, world-spanning cabals, and reptilian overlords” and is a “hub” for the QAnon conspiracy theory.
Having recently hosted the limited Peacock series, Unidentified with Demi Lovato, the controversial celebrity has opened up about their interest in extraterrestrial life.
Stating that Lovato was first interested in the website after being introduced to Dr. Steven Greer, founder of the Center for the Study of Extraterrestrial Intelligence, representatives for Gaia shared a press release about the partnership:
“After several profound experiences practicing Dr. Greer’s meditation protocols intended to make contact with extraterrestrials, Lovato became enamored with the study of consciousness.” “Continuing down their rabbit hole, Lovato quickly fell in love with Gaia original series Ancient Civilizations and Deep Space.”
While fans of the former Disney star have called for them to distance themselves from the website, Demo Lovato has yet to respond to the backlash.
