Though Halloween’s not yet upon us the first signs of the winter holiday season are starting to pop up, and the Christmas Queen herself Mariah Carey said it’s too soon!
Per a tongue-n-cheek video the multi-Grammy award winner posted via Twitter on Wednesday (10.20), Mariah was chillin’ in her dressing room as a friend wearing an MC-themed “Get Festive” Santa hoodie announced (in Portuguese) “Look what I found today! Can I wear it?” Wagging her finger, Ms Carey cheerfully responded “Not yet!” followed by her signature smile and shrug.
Thanks to her 1994 classic “All I Want For Christmas Is You,” which hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart for the second time last December, Carey is the undisputed titan of tinsel time.
In addition to the music legend’s “All I Want” becoming a perennial holiday hit, Carey’s litmus test of when to unwrap our holiday cheer has become an annual tradition.
“Not yet,” she responded to a post that declared “it’s happening” alongside a Google Trends graph showing the rise and fall of interest in the song over the previous 16 years. Just a few days later Carey was back with a short video in which she gets a call from Santa telling her it’s time to bust out the wrapping paper and Christmas cheer.
