Following their July announcement that the Swedish House Mafia have regrouped, rumors about a musical collaboration with The Weeknd are getting louder and louder.
During Sunday night’s live VMA performance the Scandinavian trio performed their pair of comeback singles, “It Gets Better” and “Lifetime” followed by a teaser video featuring SHM’s Sebastian Ingrosso reaching into a batch of black cables as The Weeknd sang “like a moth to a flame” with the words “to be continued” appearing on the screen.
In August The Weeknd fueled speculation about a potential Swedish House alliance when he played a clip of “It Gets Better” on his Memento Mori radio show in a program he said was dedicated to music that has inspired his forthcoming full length. And following the group’s Instagram post concerning a forthcoming collab, The Weeknd posted emojis of a butterfly and a flame.
While a formal release date for this new song has yet to be announced, both The Weeknd and Swedish House Mafia are managed by Sal Slaiby, the Founder/CEO of management group SALXCO and of XO Records.
