It’s official! The Euro 2020 anthem has been recorded by U2‘s Bono & The Edge and DJ Martin Garrix and was released worldwide on May 14th in time for the long-awaited, European June football tournament.
Courtesy of RCA Records, Garrix composed the music and asked the rock legends to collaborate on the single they’ve been working on for months. “Martin is known for his dance music, but they have really turned it into an anthem. It’s incredible,” said a music insider. “They have spoken quite a few times and are in London at the moment working on the video. They can’t wait to get it out there for everyone to listen to really soon.”
Titled “We Are The People We’ve Been Waiting”, according to The Sun newspaper, Bono, the Edge and the 24-year-old Dutch DJ are currently in London working on a video for the song. “Martin adores football, so this opportunity was massive for him, which is why he aimed for the very top when looking for collaborators,” a music source said.
Since breaking into the worldwide music scene in 2013 with his #1 charting “Animals” the deejay/producer/artist, born Martijn Gerard Garritsen, has also collaborated with Dua Lipa and Usher while U2 has seven #1 songs and ten #1 albums with 150,000,000+ global sales to their credit. Enrique Iglesias, David Guetta, Zara Larsson and Nelly Furtado, have each contributed songs to previous Euros competitions.
The European football tournament begins next month, with 24 countries playing in stadiums across the world, including Wembley Stadium, where the final will be held in July.
