On Tuesday, Dick Clark Productions and NBC confirmed that the Icon Award for the 2021 Billboard Music Awards will be bestowed on P!nk.
In a statement to the press, the artist, born Alecia Beth Moore, expressed her gratitude by saying, “I always dreamed of being a singer and sharing my love of music with the world since I was a little girl.” “To be honored with the Billboard Music Awards Icon Award years later is difficult to comprehend! I’m ecstatic to be around music legends including Cher, Garth Brooks, Janet Jackson, and Stevie Wonder. It’s a real ‘pinch me’ moment for me, and I’m humbled and grateful.”
In addition to accepting the award previously given to the likes of Garth Brooks, Cher, Neil Diamond, Celine Dion, Jennifer Lopez, Prince, Stevie Wonder, Janet Jackson, and Mariah Carey, Pink will perform live at the 2021 BBMAs from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, hosted by Nick Jonas.
The three-time Billboard Music Award winner just announced her new concert documentary, “P!nk: Everything I Know So Far”, recorded during her 2019 Beautiful Trauma world tour. Tackling her struggles and successes of being a pop star, a mom, a boss, and a wife, the doc features clips from backstage, onstage, interviews, on-the-road, and at-home footage and will available for streaming exclusively on Amazon Prime. Supporting the visual release is the album “All I Know So Far: SetList” which, along with the movie will launch on May 21st and the title song, “All I Know So Far,” will drop two weeks prior on May 7th.
Among a bevy of hit releases, the RCA Records artist is well-known for her studio albums: “Funhouse” (2008), “The Truth About Love” (2012), and single “What About Us” (2017). For the third time in a row, her last studio work, “Hurts 2B Human”, debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 chart and debuted at #1 in 8 other countries. The first song, “Walk Me Home,” marked her tenth #1 single on Billboard’s adult pop airplay chart, further stretching her solo performance track record in that genre.
This year’s Billboard Music Awards will air live on Sunday, May 23 at 8:00pm (set)
