MF DOOM, the mysterious rapper known for impossibly intricate rhyme schemes and his signature mask, has died at the age of 49.
Though the news broke earlier today (12.31) it appears that the rapper, whose real name was Daniel Dumile, passed away on October 31st. The rapper’s death was first announced by his wife, Jasmine, on his Instagram page, with further confirmation coming from Richie Abbott, MF DOOM’s representative.
“The greatest husband, father, teacher, student, business partner, lover and friend I could ever ask for,” wrote Dumile’s wife, Jamine. “Thank you for all the things you have shown, taught and given to me, our children and our family. Thank you for teaching me how to forgive beings and give another chance, not to be so quick to judge and write off.”
MF DOOM’s impact is hard to overstate as he used his roles as producer and lyricist to dig deep into topics and reveal their inner workings. Daniel did it all with a style that inspired the likes of Playboi Carti, Odd Future and Tyler, The Creator.
Here are some of his songs, and heartfelt messages from fellow musicians.
