The Weeknd + Shakira Headline Global Citizen Fest

International superstars Shakira and The Weeknd will co-headline this year’s Global Citizen Festival on September 27 in New York City’s Central Park.

About her involvement in the annual fundraiser concert, Shakira said “I’m honored to headline the incredible Global Citizen Festival in Central Park this September.” “Music has always been my way of connecting with people and leaving a mark on the world. I can’t wait to perform, unite, and inspire action.”

Born Abel Tesfaye, The Weeknd headlined the event in 2018, while in 2017 Shakira performed at a version of the festival ahead of the G20 Summit in Hamburg, Germany.

Returning as host of the charity event, Global Citizen ambassador, Hugh Jackman will be joined by performances from Tyla, Ayra Starr and Mariah the Scientist, with more acts to be announced in the coming weeks.

“The 2025 Global Citizen Festival marks my eleventh year as host, and I’m thrilled by the progress we’ve made over the years.” “The growing impact of the Global Citizen movement touches every corner of the world, and I’m eager to advocate alongside my fellow ambassadors, performers, world leaders, and private sector executives to leave the world better than we found it,” stated the 56-year old Jackman.

This year’s festival goal is to increase access to energy for 1,000,000 people in Africa and to provide access to quality education and football for 300,000 children.

Tickets to the festival are free, and fans can access them through the charity’s app and website by volunteering.
