“Heartbroken” to announce the cancellation, Jeff Lynne‘s ELO withdrew from this weekend’s BST Hyde Park show, citing a battle with a systemic infection.
On Saturday (7.2,) a formal statement confirmed the news that “Jeff has been battling a systemic infection and is currently in the care of a team of doctors who have advised him that performing is simply not possible at this time nor will he be able to reschedule.”
Not the first disappointing turn of events for fans, this is the second Electric Light Orchestra last-minute cancellation, following the abrupt calling off of their Manchester Co-op Live arena gig on Friday (7.11) also due to illness.
The statement emphasized Lynne’s regret, stating, “The legacy of the band and his longtime fans are foremost in Jeff’s mind today — and while he is so sorry that he cannot perform, he knows that he must focus on his health and rehabilitation at this time.”
