After frontman Billie Joe Armstrong called the city a “s*******,” all of Green Day‘s music has been pulled from Las Vegas radio stations.
After it was confirmed that his favorite baseball team, the Oakland Athletics, would be moving to Vegas, the now 52-years old legendary rocker upset the apple cart with his comments about Sin City.
While performing in September at Oracle Park – the home of the San Francisco Giants – Armstrong made his opinion of the city clear when he said:
“We don’t take s*** from people like f****** John Fisher [Oakland A’s owner]” “I hate Las Vegas. It’s the worst s****** in America.”
Subsequent to his off color remarks, a handful of Vegas radio stations have stopped playing the pop punk trio’s tunes, including:
KOMP 92.3 who posted to Instagram: “KOMP 92.3 has pulled any and all Green Day from our playlist. It’s not us, Billie…it’s you. #vegas4ever,” and X107.5 who announced on its website that it was “breaking up” with Green Day “completely,” writing:
“Well, Sin City heard him loud and clear—and X107.5 is not having it. In response to Armstrong’s inflammatory comments, the station is banning all Green Day music, effective immediately.” “Considering he played a pop-up show at Fremont Country Club last year, we’re surprised at his comments. The show was spectacular! But now, Armstrong has crossed a line with Las Vegas locals.” “So we’re breaking up with Green Day completely. Bye Bye, Billie!”
Not the first time the musician has let his feeling be heard, earlier this summer Billie Joe and company riled up Donald Trump supporters with their “idiot” mask stunt.
While holding a mask of Trump’s face with “idiot” written on it as they sang their hit ‘American Idiot’ at Washington’s Nationals Park, Armstrong switched up the lyrics and sang: “I’m not a part of the MAGA agenda” instead of “I’m not a part of a redneck agenda.”
Rounded out by Tré Cool, 51, and Mike Dirnt, 52, Green Day have long protested Trump, who is currently battling against Kamala Harris to become president in the November election.
In an attempt to raise relief funds for Maui fire victims, in 2023, the rock band sold t-shirts emblazoned with the former president’s mug shot.
