Debuting brand-new material from his long-awaited fifth studio LP that will arrive “pretty soon,” Zayn Malik offered fans a sneak peak listen of his next solo project on Tuesday (1.20,) during his new residency at Dolby Live.
Launching his Nevada run with an unreleased song, the track carried a “soft energy” with rhythm & blues influences similar to that which defined his debut solo album Mind of Mine.
Addressing his audience early in the set, the former One Direction member confirmed new music is imminent, saying “I’ve been in the studio a little bit. I got a new record coming for you guys pretty soon. I’m really excited about that… I’ll be playing some songs tonight for the first time. For you guys.”
Throughout the show, Zayn previewed several tracks from his forthcoming full length – including ‘Used to the ‘Blues’ ‘Die for Me’ and ‘Fatal’ (the latter of which incorporates Urdu lyrics in a powerful nod to his South Asian heritage) – offering an early snapshot of the project’s sound and direction.
Fans attending the residency that closes on January 31 are able to enter a Z5 listening booth to hear snippets of Zayn’s new music with a formal press release that states “The shows are only the beginning of what will be a massive year for ZAYN as he gears up for his next chapter.”
Having previously teased that his new LP will serve as a spiritual continuation of Mind of Mine, that topped the UK charts in 2016, the 33-year old singer/songwriter told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column:
“The next album is soon. I have been working on some cool s*** in South Asian music and bringing those influences into my music as well.” “It is like pop, R’n’B, and a lot of Indian influences. The record is like a continuation of Mind of Mine in that sense. I might have some songs coming out in Urdu, too.”
Zayn Malik’s new collection follows ‘Eyes Closed,’ his 2025 collaboration with BLACKPINK star Jisoo.
