Ty Dolla $ign Settles Lawsuit

A group of Memphis rappers reached a settlement to drop Ty Dolla $ign from a copyright lawsuit over an allegedly uncleared sample used on Vultures 1 – the debut studio LP by the hip-hop supergroup ¥$ aka Dolla Sign and Kanye West.

Filed in 2024, the case alleges that the Vultures 1 single ‘F*k Sumn’ is “riddled” with illegal samples from a 1994 song called ‘Drink a Yak (Part 2),’ by the artists Criminal Manne, DJ Squeeky and the late Kilo G.

In a motion filed on Wednesday (7.30,), the plaintiffs’ legal team stated they had inked a preliminary settlement to resolve their dispute with Ty Dolla Sign and Create Music Group, which was also named as a defendant in the case.

While the deal does not include West, the case claims Kanye’s use of their earlier track was “blatant” and “brazen”.

Not the first time the embattled rapper has been sued for the illegal use of unlicensed sampling, the controversial rapper has faced at least ten such cases since 2019, including a high-profile battle with the estate of Donna Summer that was settled in 2024.
