On Thursday (3.19,), executives at entertainment firm Pophouse confirmed the completion of a “strategic transaction” with BMG to become the majority owner of the late Queen Tina Turner’s music catalogue.
In addition to acquiring the icon’s “music interests,” the organization also acquired Turner’s Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) rights.
In a formal statement about the acquisition, Pophouse managing partner and head of Investments, Johan Lagerlöf, emphasized that the team will work closely with BMG and the executors of Turner’s estate to protect her legacy, adding:
“We are incredibly proud to be entrusted with helping celebrate and develop Tina Turner’s extraordinary legacy,” “Tina Turner is not only one of the greatest artists of all time, but a force of nature whose impact extends far beyond music. We look forward to developing new and exciting projects that respectfully carry her legacy forward for generations to come.”
Confirming that her team already has projects in the pipeline to celebrate the life and career of the Tennessee native, Pophouse chief executive, Jessica Koravos, said:
“I am thrilled to welcome Tina Turner’s iconic catalogue to the Pophouse family. We will now set in motion a series of creative projects to celebrate Tina Turner’s remarkable music and persona and secure her legacy as the Queen of Rock n’ Roll.”
Famous for investing in ABBA Voyage, the concert residency which features iconic band ABBA as virtual avatars, Conni Jonsson and ABBA star Björn Ulvaeus founded Swedish-based Pophouse Entertainment in 2014.
A spokesperson for Turner’s estate has not yet commented on the agreement, and the terms of the deal have yet to be disclosed.
In May of 2023, Tina Turner passed away the age of 83 following years of poor health.
