After an audience member sprayed tear gas towards the stage during his first concert on the European leg of his Ricky Martin Live tour on Thursday night (5.21) in Montenegro, the superstar singer was rushed off stage.
Taking to social media, Martin’s publicist, Róndine Alcalá, wrote, “An individual discharged tear gas toward the stage, causing an abrupt interruption of the show as audience members moved away from the area and received assistance.” “As a precautionary measure, Ricky Martin and his entire team immediately exited the stage while security personnel and local authorities worked to contain the situation and ensure the safety of those in attendance.”
Adding that the 54-year old artist and his team were advised to cancel the remainder of the concert, the Puerto Rican icon did not want to let down his fans and, therefore, resumed the show.
“Although members of the artist’s team advised against continuing the performance, once authorities confirmed that the situation was under control and that attendees could safely return, Ricky Martin made the decision to resume the concert in order to fulfill his commitment to fans,” assuring fans that Ricky and his team “are safe and grateful for the support and concern received following tonight’s events in Montenegro”.
While the tear gas incident has not affected any of his upcoming shows, including his next tour stop in Moldova on June 12, Martin has yet to comment on the incident himself.
